Hand luggage for a city break - what to pack?

City break City break

Numerous cheap flights across Europe and other continents encourage the organisation of short trips to many cities. You can enjoy a few-day visit even when on a low budget. All that it takes is to book cheap air tickets and pack into hand luggage. This is possible even with such small hand-held suitcases that passengers are permitted to bring at Wizz Air.

Hand luggage dimensions at Wizzair

Hand luggage at Wizz Air can weigh a maximum of 10 kg, and the dimensions must be up to 40x30x20 cm. The dimensions do not include wheels and luggage handles, which can increase them by 5 cm. It is therefore permitted to bring luggage on the plane in the form of a laptop bag, women's handbag, cabin suitcase or small backpack. On top of that, Wizz Air allows a coat, jacket or blanket, cell phone and book or magazine for reading on board.

Hand luggage accepted by low cost airlines is small, but guided by a few rules, it can easily fit all the necessary items for a short trip on a city break. How to prepare for a several-day journey to avoid checked baggage drop off?

What clothes should I pack for a city break?

Due to the small size of hand luggage at Wizz Air, the heaviest and largest clothes should be worn during the flight. This mainly applies to jackets, sweaters, jeans, hats, caps and sports footwear. For trips to cities where it is quite warm and sunny, you should pack 2-3 light t-shirts, underwear for each day, thin material shorts and summer footwear - preferably sandals on a flat sole into luggage. In addition to these clothes, you should bring pyjamas that are as small as possible and a thin cardigan or fleece jacket. A bathing suit may also come in handy. In the case of travel to coastal towns, ladies can afford to take a summer dress.

All clothing should be rolled up before packing into hand luggage. Rolled clothing takes up less space than when folded into cubes. On top of that, it is less susceptible to creases. If you are travelling with Wizz Air in winter, you can put warmer clothes into vacuum bags to reduce their volume.

Cosmetics and personal items

Wizz Air allows for the transport of cosmetics only up to 100 ml each in hand luggage. All cosmetics should be packed in a transparent cosmetic bag or a string bag up to 1 litre in volume, and the dimensions should not exceed 20x20 cm. Cosmetics in larger packages will be discarded by the staff when checking luggage. When deciding on a city break, it is worth buying special cosmetics in travel-size packages or choosing to purchase them after reaching the destination. In this way, you can save a lot of space in your hand luggage. If you need special cosmetics, such as for atopic skin care, the drugstore will have transparent bottles with a capacity of up to 100 ml, into which you can pour a proven lotion or shower gel. For safety reasons, nail scissors, clippers, files and other sharp objects must not be taken on board the aircraft. It is worth taking care of your nails before departure, and bringing a paper file for a city break. You can also buy a disposable razor upon arrival.

What else should you pack into your hand luggage?

You should bring a towel and sometimes also a sleeping bag for a city break. The towel should be light, quick-drying and easy to fold into a small roll. You can find such bathroom textiles in sporting goods stores. A sleeping bag can come in handy when booking cheap accommodation in a hostel where tourists provide their own bedding. Small and light sleeping bags are offered in stores with tourist equipment and in many supermarkets in the summertime.
